Circus Brazil Jack in Sweden was starting their summer tour in Malmo in the late March. Circus Brazil Jack is not a big circus but with traditions far back in the Swedish circus history. They have always managed to put up a nice performance and lots of well known artists have been working in Brazil Jack. The international clown Duo The Chickys was on tour with Brazil Jack in 1996, Cato and Florin in 1988 and 1989, Steven Pedersen and his sea lions in 1988, The world famous clown Pio Nock in 1986, Duo Grigorescu clowns and many many other stars from the world of circus.

This performance was a really nice experience with a lot of new artists never seen before in Scandinavia. As always there was a little different act in Brazil Jack and this year it was Hugo Zamoratte (I know he has been in Scandinavia before) also known as "The man in the bottle" It is really nice to see something different and something a little freaky in the modern circus today.

The performance was started by Virgil and Marinel. Two strong acrobats in a little old Fashion style. Nice and strong act.

Traditional clowns (Thank you) and in a very nice quality because they were funny and the best, they was in the ring twice with two different acts. The Harizanov Clown family was a really nice experience and they played music very well. Lots of gags and funny situations in both entrees. Their first entrée was the "you can’t play here act" were the August can find new instruments everywhere hidden in his clothes. The act is seen before (Duo Grigorescu in Brazil Jack in 2003 and Monte Carlo festival 2004) but Harizanovs has added their own charm to the act.

Darja had 2 entrees one with cats and one with dogs. Young, nice and a very new thinking dog training act and very visual. A lot of dance and acrobatic movements by Darja and followed nicely by the dogs. The music was very well considered and fitted perfectly to the act. Two poodles – one black and one white did it all together with Darja including skipping and much more – very nice and new act.

Juggling performed by Leo and Vita. I saw Leo in Brazil Jack 2003 where he did an okay act but absolutely nothing special. Now it is very different and together with his partner – Vita – they did a very nice juggling act with lots of skill full moments. I’m sure that Leo will develop to an international standard in a few years and see him outside Brazil Jack.

The horses were as usual presented by Gabi Donnert. Four brown and two white stallions did one of the oldest circus disciplines in a high quality. Gabi Donnert has been with Brazil Jack in many years and he is a guarantee for a nice horse act.

Vita in tissue, did a nice visual act. Lots of tissue acts in these days can make it a little boring for people visiting more than one circus every year. This it not normal and most people are only in circus one time a year and for them a tissue acts is very visual. Vitas act was absolutely in the positive end with a nice costume, combined with perfect lightning and music.

Darjas second entrée, this time with cats. Very similar to the dog entrée with combinations of acrobatic skills and cat training. It is very good to see new artists with their own style, never seen before and Darja is one of them. The music was just perfect for the act.

Angelis – Traditional Russian bar act. Nice - with lots of difficult tricks. A single remark to this act has nothing to do with the entrée itself but the lightning was not perfect. It was to dark and it was difficult to see the jumps when they went a few meters up under the big top.

The Harizanov – Second entrée and again with a good feeling and lots of nice music. Very funny and well considered clowns. The Harizanov are not only slapstick humour but real fun. It is rare these days and it was nice with a good laugh.

Hugo Zamoratte – Many people don’t like those kinds of acts and claims that it doesn’t belong in a circus – but of cause they do. The man in a bottle is extremely fascinating and scary at the same time. One of the reasons for a circus visit are to have a good laugh, be impressed and very important, to have something to talk about when you are back home. Hugo and his very special contorion act were first seen in circus Benneweis in 1991 and in 1992 he went to Norway to perform for circus Merano. Now he is in Sweden with this fantastic and mysterious act. Extremely nice act from this Argentinean artist.

It is very nice to see a circus in the middle class size doing a performance in this quality. It proves that it is not always necessary with artists from the upper end of the pay check to do a very entertaining performance. Brazil Jack 2005 has a very entertaining show without the big stars and the performance includes parts from the old circus traditions and  acts from the coming generations. The acts are well adapted to each other and the music was nice.

Performance time 2 hours including a 15 min break.

The performance was sold out.

Remarks:

Tent a little old and there are only benches except ringside tickets. Tickets were without numbers but they should have to prevent chaos when opening the doors.

Sound was fair.

Circus Orchestra was nice.

Artist quality was very nice without the big stars.

Circus Souvenirs and catering was ok. but it was not possible to buy beers. Nice souvenir program.

Toilets were rented and not clean – should do something about that. No handicap toilets.

Very nice service and smiling faces. Not possible to pay with credit cards

Overall presentation was very nice
